I had a little fun playing with the announcement on a change to our racing program on April Fool's day, but in all seriousness, we are switching Relentless over to a Turbo!
First things first: This isn’t a decision I made lightly, and I want to be clear WHY we are making the switch. Over the winter, the “rules committee” for Ultra Street took MORE weight out of the ProCharger combinations, which is what I’ve run the last two years. The latest change now puts Relentless ALMOST 300 pounds overweight for that combination’s minimum weight, a serious disadvantage.
Â
There is no financially feasible or reasonable way to get that much weight out of this car to be able to compete with the current combination. When we started racing in the Ultra Street class 2 years ago, we were at the minimum weight for the rules package for a ProCharger. To date, the rules have been amended to lower that minimum weight by 400 pounds.
Â
I don’t want to make the change to a new / different car, or have the deep pockets to buy all the carbon fibers. I could go on for days with honest frustrations over rules, as it’s what I’ve dealt with for the last two years.
Â
I cannot get that much weight out of the car, and that combined with the results of showing up to races way overweight, running in the middle of the pack, and then getting knocked out first round after having your stuff on kill all the time just trying to keep pace, has pushed me to the edge of frustration.
Â
I am not going to just buy a different car. THIS is my car…so do we just quit? Find a different class? Or do we look at the rules and try to find something that is more “logical” and fitting for what THIS car is? Looking at the rules made the choice for us - the Turbo combo seems to be what fits and we can be EXTREMELY competitive in this class.
Â
I have never had a turbo before, especially at this level of competition, so I have a LOT to learn. Thankfully, Roger Conley from Harts Turbo has been a HUGE help in helping me navigate the waters, and I'm excited to have Harts onboard as a BIG part of this change!
The great group at Turbosmart has also joined us on the turbo switch, and we will have several sponsors returning for 2026 as well, including ZPE Griptec, Holley, Simpson, and SCE to name a few. I will have more to announce on the companies I'm blessed to work with for this year soon!
Â
In closing – I want to thank the great team at ProCharger. They have been AMAZING to me and our team for YEARS, and I will forever and always be grateful! I am seriously going to miss everything that goes along with this combo, from the rowdy cams, to the loud ProCharger burnouts and all the ProCharger noises! We set records, won championships, made memories, just everything! The team at ProCharger are like family to me, and I especially need to send a shout out to Sergio for all of his help and constant support.

I’ll have more details and announcements coming soon for our 2026 season, and the great change for Relentless! More to come…stay tuned! -Sam
